Make Music New York - 12/21/11
This year will be Make Music New York's first Winter celebration! Make Music Winter will be on December 21st, the first night of winter. There are 12 outdoor and free performances scheduled to be played in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.
I'm very partial to guitars and would suggest "Tilted Axes: Music for Mobile Guitars" and walk along the marching electric guitarists at play. Or maybe go to the "Notation Parade," where the brass musicians will go from building to building to find parts of a piece that will be imaged onto the façades. Or if you're feeling old school and hip, go to Park Slope for "Peregrine," a boombox galore. Check out the schedule and enjoy!

Jackson Tyler Hunt - The Verge (free mp3 download)
Almost here! Jackson Tyler Hunt's album, The Verge, debuts next week on December 13, 2011. The first single off the album is the title track, The Verge. This song feels like the realization that appears after waking up the next morning from a night of fun out on the town. A realization of what the world truly is without all the sparkling lights and pom poms. And all that's left is you standing on a crossroad that you, somehow through many twists and turns, ended up at. "I'm here. What do I do now?" Will be back with the album review soon.
In the meantime, listen and download for free, The Verge, at the link here =)

Going Country - Cowboy Take Me Away
I love, live and breathe music (disclosure: doesn't mean I'm good at it). All kinds of music. But there's always been one genre that I just never quite understood and frankly, never gave a chance to. Country. Country music is a whole different planet to me. It's definitely different. Maybe growing up in a big city had something to do with it? Maybe.
Anywho, I finally listened to a few songs recently, when a friend mentioned how much he loved country music. "Wait, what? YOU?!"
I'm bringing this up because over the past few days I've replayed Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood's Remind Me ... into gluttony. And then Brad Paisley's Little Moments. And David Nail's Let It Rain. And then Keith Urban's You'll Think of Me. Where my Dixie Chicks at? I know this is just the tip of the iceberg and I'm just scraping the border between country and pop. Give me some time. But I am certainly enchanted by this "new territory." =D
Any suggestions?

Clara C - Shakin' Off Silence 2011
It took less than 2 years for a gal named Clara C to win Kollaboration Los Angeles, have a successful debut album and headline a global tour.
I was introduced to Clara's music by my wonderful buddy at AMEvents Inspiration. Check out this FUN filled site...after reading this. =D
I finally got to see Clara in concert earlier in November during the Shakin' Off Silence tour. Clara is not only an impressive vocalist (her booming voice will raise your skin) but also quite a funny person! She kept her audience entertained all throughout her performance. Without a blink and so naturally. Her shows are guaranteed by her personality to include great music and laughter. I also have to write about New Heights, later. This awesome band opened for Clara C and also collaborated with her for a music video. Stay tuned...
Clara's first album, Art in My Heart, debuted in September 2010. My personal favorite off this album is, Wake Up in Neverland. Love, love, love it. Clara just finished the Asian part (Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila) of her APAC tour. Next up, Melbourne and Sydney, Australia!
Clara reveled during her concert that when she was younger, she was given dis-encouragement to pursue a music career. Well, I hope her sold out shows showed that person how wrong he/she was. Listen to your heart fellas. There's no time like today to pursue the life you want.

Saves the Day - Daybreak
Saves The Day became Saves the Day in 1997. This from their original name since 1994, Sefler. This New Jersey based band has had only one constant since then, which is the lead singer/songwriter, Chris Conley. Arun Bali, the current backing vocals, is also becoming quite a force for the band. There must've been 20 something band mates that went through the revolving door of this band. But the fans are still here and more excited than ever for their new album, Daybreak.
My friends and I enjoyed their show a few weeks ago in NYC. I loved bopping along with the music and avoided the moshing area. I rather not walk out with a shoeprint on my face! But my other friend "Bee," who is StD's #1 fan if I ever met one, decided otherwise and jumped in. Ha!
As the band was winding down the night, they finally sang my favorite song "Anywhere with You." "CeCe" was wondering if I also thought the dude sounded like a chipmunk! He's a very good chipmunk.
Saves the Day's new (7th) album, Daybreak, debuted on September 13, 2011. Download their new song, "Living Without Love," on www.SavesTheDay.com.
Here's "Deranged and Desperate" off of the Daybreak album. Because I like it.
Lead vocals/guitar - Chris Conley
Backing vocals/guitar - Arun Bali
Base guitar - Rodrigo Palma
Drums - Claudio Rivera (LOVE his hair)

In the Midst of the Holiday Season 2011
Well November went by fast!! Cleaning, changing wardrobe, family gatherings, concerts, friends, birthdays (and there was plenty this month), turkeys, shopping and who knows what else, took more time than what the day has to offer. Hopefully y'all had a GREAT Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a wonderful way to close out your 2011 and making preparations for an awesome 2012!

V.V. Brown - back in NYC
One of the most original and talented singer songwriters, V.V. Brown is finally out of hiatus and I am ecstatic. Here's my first post on her. Please excuse the excessive use of (!).She made a tour stop in NYC last week! If you weren't there then you missed out on a good time. V.V. not only sang her classics such as "Shark in the Water," she also sang a load of her new songs from her upcoming album, Lollipops & Politics. It is set to be released in early 2012. Review = great. The songs are more mature and involves more serious issues that effects today's generations. And V.V. still makes it fun.
One of my favorites is "Famous." She wants to be famous/But what does it mean? What do anything we do in this life, mean to you?
I had the pleasure of meeting V.V. for a mere minute after her performance. I was a bit star stuck. I was meeting one of my favorite artists of all time! All I was able to get out was "I really like your songs. You are so cool. Can you sign this?" Oy. At least it made sense! V.V. was an absolute dear.

Rachael Yamagata @ Rockwood
"Be Be Your Love." That was our hope for the day. My friends and I were looking forward to see Rachael Yamagata play at Rockwood. The place was filled up pretty quickly and we were lucky enough to get front row "seats."
Rachael is a lovechild between James Morrison and Fiona Apple. Her songs have made its way onto many films and shows such as How I Met Your Mother, Nip/Tuck, Grey's Anatomy, ER.
She released her third album, Chesapeake, in October. Her single, Starlight, from the new album is taking an even more rock-ier approach from her past adult alternative style. But still very rich in voice and lyrics. Rachael is currently on a nationwide tour and will return to New York for 2 performances in December. More info in the "Upcoming Events" section!

Class Actress Free MP3 - Keep You
Download the free MP3, "Keep You" from Class Actress, here (on Amazon)! "Keep You" is the the new single of of their new album, Rapprocher. Check here for the post on Class Actress.
Here's a little something from the lead singer, Elizabeth Harper and others from her other collaboration band, Girl Crisis. Of course, they sing the classic "The Sign" from my favorite band of all time (what they are today is a whole different story), Ace of Base ! Gives me goosebumps!

Little Hurricane's TV Debut...Happened?
I don't even watch "Revenge," but it doesn't mean that I'm not a fan of it. The show is just not on my plate. Little Hurricane announced on their Facebook that their song, "Get By," will be played during last week's episode. It was an exciting moment!
The moment came...and went. I had to watch the episode 2.5 times to finally hear it! "Get By" was severely underused as background noise, not even as music, during one of the bar scenes. The good news is that the song was made available on ABC's website right after the episode. Hopefully it has gotten more traction from there. They certainly deserve it. No worries, the talent is there and the people will come. I freaking <3 Little Hurricane. Now if only you'd come back to visit the East Coast!

Perez Hilton's One Night in NYC
Oh, yeah. I was there. Heart my friends!! Thanks to "Yo Yo" who invited moi. The set list for the night was amazing. And curious. I never thought I would see Pauly D do DJ, live. I mean, EVER. In my life.
One Night In NYC - Set List 2011
Mike Nouveau DJ
DJ Pauly D
Anjulie
Iggy Azalea
Karmin
Mia Moretti DJ
Boyz II Men
Mary J. Blige
Little Boots DJ
This was like being in the candy store. Gushing on the sweets even when you know they can rot your teeth! Except Boyz II Men. They rock. Their first song was MotownPhilly. I knew most of the words to it! I did learn something in school. The group has shrunk by 1. Nathan, Wanya and Shawn are still very much in. Boyz II Men came out with a new album, Twenty, today!
A few of my other favorite acts are Karmin and Anjulie.
Anjulie is a Canadian singer/songwriter who's songs has appeared on many shows. She also won the video of the year in 2009 for "Boom." Anjulie's older songs leans towards more soul/pop-rock music. Her new song, "Brand New B**ch" is going a WHOLE different way. Electro and dance-pop. I have to admit that it is really catchy. It would go great in the dance clubs. The audience loved it, but her older fans are giving the curious eye brow for now. It's great that she's experimenting with other music, though. She is going for something "Brand New."
Karmin, Karmin, Karmin. Karmin is a duo with Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan. These 25 year olds from Massachusetts are hitting mainstream radio like lightening. One of Karmin's originals, "Take It Away," was featured in this year's NBA Finals. Amy is the guitar and vocals and also an EXCELLENT rapper who favors a style from the 1940s. She pulls it off beautifully. Nick is the piano guy and the other half of this recently ENGAGED duo. Congrats!! Once you listen to their cover of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass", there will be no turning back.
And last but not least, I will leave you a picture of Pauly D. I was so mesmerized by his shiny Italia laptop. And that hair. Fist pumping was definitely involved. Need I say more?

The Wombats @ Webster Hall
A couple of us went to see the Wombats on Wednesday night. We just kept raving about how much fun it was. We also could not stop talking about the last time we were inside of Webster Hall! Ah, those college nights...
Moving on. The night started with some of the best opening acts we've seen in a long time. The Spring Tigers followed by The Postelles (or Pos-tell-iis, as questioned by friend "B"). We'll get to them in a later post. They're also Stella drinkers.
The energy, the music, the voice of lead singer Matthew Murphy, and the fans all made a smoothie of a good time. Definitely, one of the best $16 spent on a Wednesday night. I wasn't even moving when I was recording because the crowd was literally shaking the dance floor. I was more worried about what to hold on to if the floor decided to take a break!

Little Hurricane on "Revenge"
The Little Hurricane that could. This is the cool band. In high school, they would be the cool kids that are very nice but also beat to their own drum and no one else's. They're just naturally popular because of who they are, not because they strive to be. It's nuts!
Little Hurricane's song, "Get By" will be on ABC's show, Revenge, tonight! Here's the video of their new single, "Crocodile Tears."

The Wombats tonight!
I don't care if it's raining cats and dogs (and it definitely is), I'm feeling sunny because I have a date with The Wombats tonight! Tickets are still available at the door at Webster Hall. Come and see this British band make a splash across the pond. They already did back home.
